The "Reviews" page is a thing which exists!
I haven’t mentioned it in a while on here, but along with my musings on music and life here, I also do a lot of music writing elsewhere on the interwebs. (Really, lately, it’s been more of the latter than the former). I don’t typically repost my reviews here, because I feel like this blog serves a different, more personal purpose*, which invites a different sort of writing**.
But if you click the link up top here (you’ll also find it on the sidebar at the main MakeupForTheSilence.com page), you’ll find a page with links to all of my outside writing. It’s current as of today. I’ve also added a chronological list, so if you DO keep up with what I write, you can see what’s been newly posted.
I expect the long-promised redesign won’t be happening until the end of the year, but I thought this was an area I could get a little headstart on!
* I mean really, this place isn’t about writing about music; it’s about writing about myself via writing about music
** which is not to imply that my reviews are impersonal. I’ve never been a fan of reviews that just talk about what an album sounds like (and they’re expecially worthless now that any album can be sampled easily and free of charge); I try to explore things like context, importance, artistic intent, success in achieving that intent, and the greater narrative of the band in question. ”Try” being the key word; I’ve got a long ways to go, but I think I’m slowly getting better at it. And so, in trying to take in all that and spit it back out in some meaningful way, there’s always a personal element involved
