So, last night I went to see the Summerland tour…
I’m at Roseland Ballroom for Gin Blossoms, Everclear, Lit, Marcy Playground and 3 more (New York, NY) w/ 37 others 4sq.com/NiQc00

25 minutes into set, Marcy Playground play Sex & Candy, and crowd suddenly figures out who the band they’ve been watching for 25 mins is

Lit have beerholders on their mic stands and a bottle of jäger on their drum riser

@jrichmanesq Did you timetravel to the late 90’s to attend this show? Are you tweeting from the past with technology that didn’t even exist?

Venues I have seen Gin Blossoms, chronologically: a fair; an off-Strip Vegas casino; NYC’s Roseland Ballroom. This seems backward somehow.

Man, trotting out Lost Horizons here somehow seems really wrong and yet sadly, ironically apropos
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
And now they’re covering A Million Miles Away. Bonus points for good taste!

First time I saw Gin Blossoms was a coheadliner w Goo Goo Dolls, who covered that song on Hold Me Up #Pinfield

Deeply unsatisfying. The Happy Nostalgia treatment doesn’t work when the beauty in your pop was the pain. Nostalgia is the enemy of pathos.
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Pretty cool that all these dudes in the audience grew goatees just for tonight’s 90s nostalgia show

Art Alexakis’ little daughter’s favorite band is Sugar Ray. All that heroin use must’ve damaged his sperm somethin’ fierce.
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Sugar Ray on now. Do I a) shout “MEAN MACHINE!” all set long, or b) shove my keys in my ears?
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Huh, they actually played it. Props #2!
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Sugar Ray cover Blitzkrieg Bop. Giant pit opens up. Because that’s what you do when the band plays the punk song, right bro?
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Full credit where due: Sugar Rays music is perfect for this kind of thing (schlocky nostalgia goop from out of the gate), and they KILLED.
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Art Alexakis: “its not the 90s. When you start a pit, you hurt girls. Dont hurt girls.” Speaking truth to Dudebros!
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Things I was not counting on tonight: Everclear covering Led Zep’s Rock N Roll w AJay Popoff playing Robert-Plant-(as-played-by-Josh-Todd)
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Good set by Everclear but a little disappointed they didn’t play One Hit Wonder. Probably were afraid of offending Marcy Playground
— ♚Jesse Richman♚ (@jrichmanesq) July 19, 2012
Final note: when you dont spot anyone else in a band tee, you might be at a Concert For People Who Don’t Like Music. Was still fun tho! /fin
